For patients who have problems with their front eight teeth, including chips, gaps, or teeth that are poorly shaped, veneers might be the solution! Smith Dental can give you the smile you want and in less time than you think with the placement of dental veneers.
What are veneers?
Dental veneers are a thin porcelain shell that is customized to fit your teeth, and the look you want. Though referred to as porcelain, dental veneers can actually be made from multiple materials including porcelain or resin composite materials. We will review your options with you during your evaluation. They are placed over the face of your original teeth and will change the look of your smile. With dental veneers, we can:
How are dental veneers placed?
The placement of dental veneers require at least two office visits. During your first visit we will evaluate the situation and make recommendations based on your needs. Dr. Smith will then take a mold or impression of your current teeth, which will be sent to a dental lab along with instructions of the desired look. Once we have received your customized veneers we will contact you to schedule a second appointment.
At your second appointment, we will begin with thoroughly cleansing your tooth and making the necessary reduction in natural tooth size needed to allow for space to fit your new veneer, about 1/2 millimeter of your hard enamel layer. We will also reshape your original tooth to ensure that it hides well behind your veneer. With the natural tooth reduced in size, we then etch the face of the tooth, roughening the surface, to allow for better bonding. We apply the bonding agent and the veneer. Dr. Smith will check the look and status of the veneer, make adjustments as needed, and then cure the bond with a specialized blue light.
Your dental veneer is not a permanent restoration, but it is durable, and should last you several years.
Patients love dental veneers because in two appointments we can dramatically alter the look of your smile. Dental veneers look like your natural teeth, allowing them to hide in your mouth. They are resistant to staining, and durable in strength.
